Jnana Jyothi Financial Literacy and Credit Counselling Trust, sponsored by Syndicate Bank, established in October 2010, has completed 9 years of its service in the field of spreading free financial literacy to various segments of people who are deprived of formal financial facilities and who are financially excluded particularly in rural, backward & unbanked areas. The Financial Literacy Centres sponsored by the Trust through their 1,42,037 programmes, have covered more than 63.94 lakh people during the last 9 years.
During the first half of the financial year 2019-20, the Trust has conducted 11334 camps covering 4,85,836 people through its 75 centres spread over 5 States – Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and UT of Lakshadweep. Out of 75 centres, Syndicate Bank has sponsored 55 centres. Karnataka Vikas Grameena Bank, Karnataka Bank, Andhra Pragathi Grameena Bank who joined the Trust as institutional sponsors, have sponsored 10, 5 and 5 centres respectively.
During the period under review, the centres have concentrated on spreading awareness on digital payment systems and literacy to specific target groups as per Reserve Bank of India direction. More thrust was given to – Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyothi Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, Atal Pension Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana and Sukanya Samridhi Account – the popular social security schemes of Government of India. During the half year ended 30.9.2019, out of 11,334 campaigns, the Trust has conducted 1,468 Going Digital programmes through UPI and *99# (USSD) and covered 74,197 people, 2,207 programmes for farmers benefitting 79,942 farmers, 1,066 MSME programmes covering 32,627 people, 1,948 programmes for school children covering 1,35,240 students, 1,870 programmes for Self Help Group covering 53,147 members and 938 programmes for Senior Citizens covering 25,500 persons.
The Board of Trustees met on 8th November 2019 to review the performance of the centres and to adopt the Half Yearly Accounts of the Trust for the period ended 30.09.2019. The meeting was chaired by Sri I.N. Raghavendra Bhat, Managing Trustee and attended by the Trustees – Sri H. Suresh Prabhu, Dr. Ramachandra Kamath, Sri N. Jagathpala, Trustees and Sri K. Raviraja, Secretary of the Trust. On going through the performance, the Board has expressed its satisfaction over the activities of the Centres.
